Dream Body & Mind Re:TREAT

As you may or may not know, I spent the past three days at a Dream Body and Mind Re:TREAT in Southampton. This was a week of physical, spiritual, and emotional growth for me, indeed. After Monday’s Spirit Junkie Sati and my three-day juice cleanse, I feel like a whole new woman! And after this Re:TREAT, I can say I am!

cropped-RetreatHeader41While it’s humanly impossible to fully describe this experience, the purpose of Re:TREAT was to heighten awareness, perspective, and spirituality to create desired change and a more fulfilling life. Awareness of our physical being, spiritual being, mind-body connection, breath, life goals, conception of self, connection with others, emotions, past and present experiences, and so on. We did this through movement, learning, discussion, exploration, and breath.

Re:TREAT is lead by Cynthia Goerig-Waldrup and Michelle Weber (who you may have read about here!) Cyndi is a master coach and teacher who enriches people’s lives daily. Michelle is a fitness expert, specializing in pilates, gyrotonic, gyrokinesis, pre and post natal training, and celebrity personal training. Together, they make a mind-blowingly fabulous team.

With five women total, the group was tight-knit and personal. Five different personalities, all together for the same reason: personal growth. There was a comforting level of equality and care for others from the get-go. While we were lead through group activities, we also explored our own individual “stuff,” as there was a nice balance between group discussion, movement, and individualized attention. Cyndi and Michelle both lead the group in a very relaxed, approachable manner, setting structure while allowing for unforseen shifts, self-exploration, and supportive conversation.

We all have a story, a pattern, a way of living life that may not be our ideal, it may be a little bit different, or a lot different, from our dream life. These three days were all about identifying and ridding the old story and rewriting it with our dream-life. We’ve all heard of manifesting. If we manifest that our dreams will come true, that our ideals are reality, then it will come true, if we do the work to unblock our barriers first. If we believe in ourselves, our greatest fantasies will become reality. After all, is everyone’s goal in life not pure happiness? Good news: it’s absolutely possible for us all!

MP900387284One of the newer concepts to me is relating energy and vibrancy to all aspects of life. When we remain in lower vibrational patterns, we are weighted down. Movement and meditation, among others, can stimulate vibration, which elevates mood and energy. Everything has a vibrational frequency, the words you say, foods you eat, water you drink, music you listen to, and people who surround you. It was very interesting to learn about vibrational frequency and how it impacts our lives and level of happiness. This was just one of the many lessons Cindy and Michelle made us aware of during Re:TREAT. The point being that we control our own happiness. Re:TREAT gave us the tools to zone into this control and amplify results.

So, what happens next? I’m not sure, exactly and I think that’s the fun of it, because I am open to anything that comes my way. After three days at Re:TREAT, I see the world, and myself, a bit differently. I definitely have a heightened sense of awareness, and gratitude, and I’m loving that. I know that I want to treat myself and others better and I have every intention of doing so. I am embracing this contentment, but am also ready and available for more. If you crave a bit of enlightenment, supported self-exploration, or a whole new life story, I’d suggest contacting Cyndi and/or Michelle today. They offer a complimentary consultation to learn more about this program, so you’ll know if it’s right for you. I definitely feel honored to have been a part of Re:TREAT, it was quite a treat.

One Healthy Breakdown: Don’t be afraid to take a chance and sign yourself up for some personal growth. Keep your eyes peeled for Michelle and Cindy’s next Re:TREAT.

Gyro what?! GYROKINESIS!

When Michelle Weber invited me to take her GYROKINESIS class, I knew I was in for something a little different. Just how different, I had no idea. I walked up to Dance Hampton (15 Lumber Lane, East Hampton) to find an adorably decorated room with a happy vibe, stools, and mats on the floor. Stools? My curiosity grew.

You may remember Michelle Weber from the post about Pre and Post-Natal Training, which does incorporate some GYROKINESIS, but this class is for anyone looking to hone in to alignment and strength from deep within the core. Michelle explains that GYROKINESIS is a core-strength movement system that incorporates the benefits of yoga, tai chi, gymnastics, and dance. The class works in rhythmic circular and spiral movements to allow the entire body to stretch and strengthen through spinal movement, increasing flexibility, extension, coordination, stamina, and relaxation. At times, I felt it all.

As a pretty frequent exerciser, I learned a TON in this one hour. GYROKINESIS is like nothing I’ve ever tried (and I’ve tried a lot, as you know.) I had no idea that the body could move in such a way, that I could literally pinpoint certain areas and work them with such precision. It felt like I was honing into single muscle fibers, one at a time. How? You’ve got to experience it to believe it. Believe me.

GYROKINESIS is about intention; targeting specific muscles and muscle groups with exact movements, structure, rhythm, and focus, all while inhaling and exhaling purposefully. In the midst of each move, I felt as though I was tightening, lengthening, opening, and strengthening, all at the same time. It was quite a phenomenon, this feeling of muscles tensing together at the same time you’re working to pull them apart. The result? Muscles wrapping tightly around the bone to promote length.

In addition to physical precision, GYROKINESIS produced an immediate enhancement in mind-body awareness. My brain was hyper-focused, every direction from Michelle was crucial for proper form. The signals sent from brain to muscle, and vice versa, create intense connection. This is not really a workout you can zone out to, at least at the beginning, it takes constant concentration. This class produced a heightened awareness, one I can definitely see huge potential benefits in all areas of life.

Pre and Post-Natal Training and Dancin’ with Michelle!

Intro from Kiley: I recently got to chat with local baby mama, lifelong dancer, health coach, and fitness pro, Michelle Weber, who splits her time between NYC & The Hamptons, teaching, coaching and providing pre and post-natal training. I was so captivated with her work and approach to fitness, birth, and life, that I just had to share with you. Since I have yet to step into the world of motherhood myself, I asked Michelle to write an article about what it is she does. Read all about her work here and be sure to check out her Integrated Fusion Fun & GYROKINESIS® classes at DanceHampton this summer! Learn more about Michelle and sign up for classes via her Facebook page or email: Michelle@MichelleWeber.com. Classes cost $35 each but YOU get $10 off your first class when you email her – see you there!!

Pre-natal Training is such an inspiring and wonderful time. I begin working with moms-to-be (planning to get pregnant) and newly pregnant moms all the time and am so inspired to help guide these women through their pregnancies feeling strong, active and ready for the finish line….birth! From the moment you actually become pregnant, everything begins to change. Your muscle tone changes, your pelvic cavity reacts differently, and so on.

It is sometimes an odd time for the mom-to-be, to know what is “good” to do, and what is not. There is a lot of conflicting information out in the world about how to safely prepare for birthing while training your body. That is the way I look at it, “safely preparing the body to give birth.” Through each stage, I cater the session and progression to the woman in front of me and how she is feeling in her pregnancy. Each trimester brings about new changes. Strength, length, and support are key to feeling great, as well as helping to create space in the body for both mom and baby to feel comfortable. The goal is to maintain a level of fitness, but also to prepare mom’s body, mind, and emotions to do what is most important…give birth. I love being able to exercise with my moms and help them to feel confident that what they are doing is really benefiting the journey they are about to embark upon. It is proven that performing an intelligent exercise regime during pregnancy can also help the body to begin to heal faster once that beautiful baby is born.

Post-Natal Training. Let me begin with my definition of what a “post-natal” client is…any woman who has ever given birth! Sometimes I meet women that have children that are a little bit older, and they assume that they wouldn’t be considered “post-natal”. Not in my book! If you have had children, one year, two years, 10 years ago…you are post-natal, especially if you have not taken the time to address the internal changes that occurred in your body following the birthing process.

As a woman who has experienced pregnancy, birth, and motherhood, I absolutely adore the process of healing and strengthening women’s bodies from the ‘Inside Out.=,’ my specialty for the past seven years. It is a special process that coincides with one of the greatest life changes we will ever make. It is my goal to guide women back to a place where their bodies heal and function fully. We begin with deep core training to reprogram the muscles of the pelvis, spine, core, and diaphragm. I specialize in pelvic floor training and also the closing of a split of the Diastasis (rectus). The earlier I begin to work with a post-natal client, the easier it is to heal and repair, but it can be done at any stage.

It takes a lot of strength and stamina to be a mom, so endurance training comes next, but no matter what, we start by finding the foundation to create movement for endurance training. The more powerful and comfortable a woman feels in her body, the better she can function in life! We are not re-creating your pre-pregnancy body, you are a whole new woman now. We are creating a newer, upgraded version that now embodies all that you are. Harnessing the power to create life gives that core even more power!

I love teaching women to really move to continue their training as they get stronger. My integration of dance in my work and my classes creates a sense of ownership, freedom, and femininity. Dance allows for a fun way to get the cardio in that doesn’t feel like work. It is not easy, but when done right…it is quality over quantity for sure!!!

We all know that a mom’s time is limited and quite valuable! Use your time to harness that greatness inside; your Dream Body!
