Wellness Week Wrap Up

This past weekend, we wrapped up Hamptons Wellness Week with wellness, workouts, and warriors by the water. It was an amazing way to end a wonderful week of wellness thanks to the participants, businesses, and brands that showed up in the name of wellness and well-being!

YogaClass

We kicked off the day with a kick-ass Core Fusion Cardio class thanks to Elisabeth Halfpapp, co-founder of Exhale Spa! We punched, planked, and sweat our way through, overlooking the beautiful salty waves and blue sky…what a way to start the day!

ExhalePunch

Between classes, we fit in a panel discussion about staying healthy and well in the Hamptons all summer long. Meet the experts: Anastasia Gavalas of Hamptons Wellness Week and Wing It, OHH’s founder/EIC, Kiley DeMarco, Debra Halpert of Hamptons Magazine, and Elisabeth Halfpapp of Exhale. So, what is the secret to enjoying the Hamptons while staying healthy? Balance, moderation, and indulging in local goodness, food and wine included. As Wellthily put it, “everything in moderation, even moderation.” So, ditch the diet, live with intention, enjoy every day, and make your own rules. If you’re not sure how or where to start, we’re here for you.

We moved on to a live DJ yoga class with local duo Leigh Anne Eberle and DJ Ray Jarrell. The storm held out for this beautiful hour of rhythm, flowing, stretching, dancing, and reflecting.

WellnessWarriors

Aly Teich of The Sweat Life, Lisa Hayim of The Well Necessities, Kiley, and Suzie Baleson of Wellthily

Post-workouts, we chatted and snacked on Lisa’s Hugly (the healthy + ugly) cookies YUM! Sunday’s programming started with a “Yoga in the Vines at the Beach” class with OHH’s Erica Velazquez. We woke up with a beautiful vinyasa flow, reaching for the blue skies above.

Transitioning from tranquility to toning, we jumped right into Core Fusion Barre by the beach with Rachel Feldman (below) of Exhale. The backdrop made each pulse a bit less painful and the ocean breeze made the hot summer sunshine not only bearable, but beautiful.

ExhaleBARREclass

The entire weekend was full of gratitude for wellness, well-being, bonding, fitness, friendships, (new and old) strength, sunshine, and this amazing place we’re lucky enough to call home. From the weather to the workouts, and of course, the wellness warriors, we were blessed.

Hamptons Cranksgiving!

Saunders & Associates is proud to join forces with the nationwide Cranksgiving movement. This ride was the brainchild of NYC cycling enthusiasts who wanted to pair pedaling with giving.

10348539_10152473843003575_3037848298029843841_nThe concept is simple. The route takes you to four different grocery stores. You pay nothing to join the ride. Instead, we ask that you bring your wallet and purchase non-perishables at each grocery store stop along the way – the amount you spend is completely up to you. There you have it. You get to spend the morning riding your bike with a group of awesome riders and you help members of your community have food on their tables for the holidays.

What could be better than that? Not much. So, what do you say? We’ll be starting our event in East Hampton Village on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014. All donations for this ride will go to the East Hampton Food Pantry. They plan to feed more than 31,000 people this year in Amagansett, East Hampton, Montauk, Springs and Wainscott.

NBC’s TODAY Show will be at Cranksgiving documenting the event and will be airing the footage on Monday, 11/24! Today Show’s Matt Lauer and Darlene Rodriguez from WNBC will be riding in the Hamptons Cranksgiving, so sign up to join them!

The ride will start and finish at the East Hampton Middle School (76 Newtown Lane, East Hampton.)
Registration will begin at 10am. The ride will begin at 11am. The ride is approximately 6 miles. There will be fun prizes and giveaways along the way!

Riders, please bring:
• Bike with a helmet and a bike lock
• Large, sturdy backpack to carry your non-perishable goods
• At least $20 to purchase the food (bring more if you want to donate more!) There is no registration fee.

Please check-in when you arrive to receive a free map with your route — including stops at local grocery stores — a shopping list of food requested by the East Hampton Food Pantry and an envelope to collect all the receipts for your purchased items.

This is a charity ride and not a race. Ride safely, be nice and treat others like you would like to be treated. Cranksgiving is lots of fun, helps a good cause and shines a positive light on the local community. Please come help us support our community!

One Healthy Breakdown: crank up gratitude this holiday by joining Cranksgiving!

Reflecting on Hamptons Wellness Week

The beauty of Hamptons Wellness Week is that there are no rules, little direction, and endless possibilities. When we first created Hamptons Wellness Week, the concept immediately grew beyond just free fitness classes. It’s about connecting, growing, and thriving. It’s about creating a balance between old and new, challenging and rejuvenating, and balancing goodness for the mind, body, and soul.

Vintage Balance ScaleIn reflecting on my own experiences during Hamptons Wellness Week, I only wish that I had had the time and energy to try EVERYTHING! Here are a few of my summer Wellness Week highlights:

I spent Sunday at the Southampton Farmer’s Market meeting and greeting (and eating fresh local goods!) and was lucky enough to catch a Pure Barre class right across the street. I walked in feeling great and walked out feeling extraordinary, flexible, and fit. Is the goal of Wellness Week to diet and detox all week? Heck, no! But a week full of wellness sure does make us more in-tune with how we fuel our bodies. The more energy-packed foods we eat, the more energy we have to move. Kicking the week off right set me up for better balance all around.

photo 2Monday morning came along and I was so excited to step out of my comfort zone and onto the beach for Jimmy Mindardi’s Beach Workout. After hearing about Jimmy for years, I couldn’t wait to get started…and then I couldn’t wait to get finished…! Holy heart-rate, Batman! It was a morning to remember, that’s for sure. If you’re looking for a full body challenge, cardio BLAST, raw outdoor workout, (and have some $ to spend) Jimmy’s your guy. Tell him “Killer” sent you.

photo(185)Just a beach, some cones, some flags, and about 10 of the most in-shape women I’ve ever met in my entire life. Needless to say that Tuesday I woke up sore as ever. But I had things to do and people to see, so I headed to Hampton Bays to MARVILfit and I’m glad I did. I pedaled through the pain with Marisella and her gang. If you’re going to try something new and you have a feeling you’ll be meeting some inspiring people, it’s worth the drive and the sore muscles, trust me. Get back on the bike…always get back on the bike!

And so I did. When I walked onto the treadmill at Barry’s Bootcamp on Wednesday morning, I wondered if my legs may just fall right off. They did not, thankfully…and as soon as class wrapped up, that post-Barry’s high was well worth every minute, incline, and lift..and later came some stretching, lots and lots of stretching.

10561595_1529730033922088_4665748599437855778_nBy Thursday, my body had just about had it, it was time I “take care of what I’ve got.” I decided to balance out the physical exhaustion with some much-needed spiritual goodness. The day started with yoga, ended with yoga, and included nothing but R&R in between. Thank goodness for Time to Breathe Zen in Southampton! I enjoyed a private yoga session with Kristina, who is not only one delightful yogi, but also incredibly skilled, graceful, welcoming, and clearly intuitive as this is how we wrapped up:

photo 5Pure bliss. After our yoga session, I moved right along to some reflexology and meditation. I sunk into the cozy chair and into my own little world. Utilizing the wide variety of guided meditations on the personal tablet during my reflexology treatment, I was definitely breathing nothing but zen. What’s better than personalized yoga, reflexology, and meditation? How about following it all up with a manicure and pedicure for 50% off?! Yes, please!

photo 2Thanks to Flying Point Nail Spa for putting the icing on cake of my afternoon of pampering! Just thinking about it makes me excited for the next Wellness Week! After all, where and when can you get utterly pampered and super fit all in the same week, at HUGE discounts?! Oh I love me some Hamptons Wellness Week!

Sporting newly primped nails and full of zen, I headed to Wolffer for some Sunset Salutations.

photo 3Along with many other Wellness Week warriors in the vines, we didn’t want to leave!

photo 4So we stayed. If that doesn’t say “job satisfaction,” I don’t know what does! Just an hour of Yoga in the Vines can turn anyone into a yogi, it’s really just that good. Talk about a day of R&R!

Friday morning started with a green smoothie and some Dance Cardio at Elements Fitness Studio. The weekend couldn’t have kicked off any better! This class is the perfect combination of cardio, core, strength, sculpt, and choreographed fun, head to toe! It just may be impossible to get bored of this fast-moving class and I can’t wait to head back for more!

photo 1Last but definitely not least, it was time to ditch the yoga pants and celebrate an amazing week at the Old Stove Pub for our “Wellness Wing-Ding” (smiling here with Kim of Hamptons Health Concierge and Emily of AKT in Motion, two fabulous HWW providers.)photo 5 With the sun shining, drinks flowing, live music playing, healthy apps passing, plates breaking, (opa!) and Hamptons Wellness Week rockstars all in one place, a good time was had by all. Greeks know how to throw a party that’s for sure!

2014-07-18 18.41.01(1)The perfect way to wrap up a perfect week! Ok, enough of me, what about YOU?! Regardless of how you chose to spend your Wellness Week, if you put yourself first, tried something new, went outside of your comfort zone, spoiled yourself, and felt better, healthier, more balanced, GO YOU! You succeeded at Hamptons Wellness Week! Where and how did you spend your week? What did you try? Who did you meet? How did you challenge yourself? Where did you pamper yourself? What was your favorite part? Least favorite? We want to know! Email kiley@hamptonswellnessweek.com and/or anastasia@hamptonswellnessweek.com with your thoughts, highlights, questions, and suggestions! We can’t wait to plan the next Wellness Week this JANUARY (mark your calendar!) and your input means a LOT to us as we embark on our second year!

photo 3Most of all, we can’t thank YOU enough, participants, providers, trainers, instructors, sponsors, and supporters! It’s YOU who makes this event so amazing, so keep up the good work! Be sure to follow Hamptons Wellness Week on Facebook and Twitter for exciting updates and stay well!

One Healthy Hamptons: Happy Hamptons Wellness Week to all and to all, a great SUMMER!

Christopher’s Run 5k This Saturday!

Join One Healthy Hamptons this Saturday, June 8th, for the sixth annual Christopher’s Run 5k! Start your morning with a fun run to benefit a fabulous cause, The Christopher Lesta Fund Inc (tax-exempt 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.)

Christophersrun

Christopher Lesta was an adorable young boy, well-known by many in the Hamptons community for his sweet, charming nature. He was constantly laughing and smiling and his positivity touched everyone who knew him. Christopher was known as “the little man with the big smile;” his heart was always open and his smile was contagious.

Christopher was born with Hunter Syndrome and lived a short life. Hunter is a rare genetic disorder that primarily affects males. Due to the disease, Christopher’s body was deficient in necessary enzymes responsible for breaking down and recycling units of carbohydrates. These cells build up and interfere with bodily functions, worsening quickly with time. Hunter Syndrome is a deadly disease that causes progressive damage to the body, with no known cure.

Christopher made quite a lasting impression during his short time in our community and beyond, constantly reminding everyone to smile. In 2007, Christopher was five and thriving in kindergarten, after a blood transplant, when he unexpectedly caught an infection that spread to his heart. Sadly, Christopher passed away in early December, 2007. The Christopher Lesta Fund was started in Christopher’s strong memory, in the hopes of helping other children through their transplant process, and aiding researchers to one day find a cure to eradicate this horrible disease.

Taking place in Southampton, the route starts in Agawam Park and takes participants through a beautiful tour of Southampton village. It’s truly an amazing event. This will be my second time running Christopher’s Run (last year, my mom was visiting from Boston and surprised me by joining me in her very first 5k!) This year, I’ve invited more family to participate and One Healthy Hamptons is a proud sponsor! We hope to see you at the starting line!

Christophers Run 5k w MomRegister here or on race day from 8-9am. The run begins at 9:30am, with a kids fun run at 9am. Bring the whole fam!

One Healthy Breakdown: embrace Christopher Lesta’s spirit this Saturday; (and every day!) by smiling big and running for Christopher.
