AKT is in Motion in the Hamptons

Want to trick yourself into thinking you’re at a dance party while your heart rate maxes and your muscles work? Then get your booty to AKT and get ready to shake that…and lots more.

photo 2AKT in Motion was founded by dancer Anna Kaiser, who brought her passion for dance into a multi-disciplinary, all-in-one routine. All of AKT’s teachers are dancers with a greater appreciation for fitness and cross-training.

AKT is a high-intensity interval workout full of dance cardio combined with strength training, resistance training, flexibility, and more. Between dance intervals, we worked our core with planks, arms with weights, and glutes on the mat. Every two weeks, the class changes entirely. Just when you may have the routine down, you’re introduced to a whole new class, beginning to end, to keep us guessing. There’s nothing routine about this dance-cardio class. The dancing is a fast-moving, high-energy, fun and playful routine that feels more like a dance party than a fitness class, but don’t let that fool you into thinking you’re not going to sweat.

photo 5Oh, you’re going to sweat…even if you’re like me and can’t dance for beans. Do your best, keep moving, and have fun, even when everyone goes one way and you go the other (it happens to the best of us!) In the meantime, you’ll get a good workout and clear the mind. There’s nothing else to think about but keeping up with those moves and high-energy music.

If all AKT teachers are as positive and energetic as Emily, you’re guaranteed a good time. That smile did not leave her face the entire hour; her mood was contagious and her moves were out of this world. The energy at AKT will make you want to spend the day on the dance floor. No need for cocktails before this dance party, it’s happening. Check out AKT this summer at Hamptons Gym Corp’s Southampton and Sag Harbor locations.

One Healthy Breakdown: Get your booty shaking with AKT – you’ll leave with a smile and even some new moves!

Hamptons Wellness Week’s Signature Bai-Tini

photo(172)Last weekend, we wrapped-up Hamptons Wellness Week’sEase into the Season” at Page at 63 Main. We celebrated a fabulous week of pampering, wellness, self-care, community, connection, and much more. What a week it was!

To all of you who participated, sponsored, spread the word, reaped the benefits, offered great deals and amazing services, tried new things, and focused on YOU during Hamptons Wellness Week, THANK YOU! And a special thanks to Page at 63 Main, one of my very favorite restaurants around the Hamptons for good reason. Located right in Sag Harbor Village, Page is incredibly in-tune with wellness, freshness, and serving the community right. Right along with Page’s value for both wellness and fun, the “Bai-tini” was born. Bai is a tasty, healthy, natural, and low-calorie antioxidant drink that makes for a great refresher anytime of day and happens to mix great for cocktails too! With our Bai-tinis in hand, we raised our glasses and “clinked” to an amazing summer to come! Join us in “easing into the season” with your own homemade Bai-tini:

Hamptons Wellness Week’s Signature Bai-tini by Page at 63 Main:

  • Add 1 shot Prairie Organic Vodka

How to Make Taxes Fun

Two businessmen jumping and celebrating on the beachOk, so the only bad thing about the spring season (other than this RIDICULOUS winter weather – have I mentioned I hate the cold?!) is that it happens to commence with tax season. Thankfully, here are some ideas on how to make taxes fun (ok, that’s an exaggeration.)

How to make doing taxes suck less:

1. Listen to fun music.

2. Have a fun snack.

3. Make a fun drink.

4. Commiserate with a fun friend.

5. Start your taxes before April 14th.

6. Break up the work.

7. Take fun breaks.

8. Reward yourself with something fun when all of the fun’s over.

9. Don’t be afraid to wear your suit to the beach.

10. Appreciate the fact that taxes usually means we have a job…and jobs are good.

One Healthy Breakdown: don’t have toooo much fun this tax season!

12 Days of Holiday Fun

How about actually enjoying this time we know as ‘the most wonderful time of the year’ spreading cheer instead of fear?! There’s nothing holding us back from keeping calm and embracing the season. Instead of just surviving the holidays, lets slow down, breathe, soak it in, count our blessings, have fun, be silly, make cookies, and spread CHEER this year! Here are 12 ways to keep calm and have a HAPPY holiday season!

12. Make a shopping list. Put some thought into your gifts and stay organized. Check off as you shop and don’t save it all for last minute! When you’re done shopping, reward yourself with a little something special for yourself. 11. Wear a big, chunky holiday sweater (it doesn’t have to be “ugly,” per se – beauty is in the eye of the beholder…) but it must be too big and super comfy! 10. Make hot chocolate and watch your favorite holiday movie and soak it up. My personal faves include Elf, Love Actually, The Family man, and The Holiday. 9. Did you get your Christmas tree yet?! Blast the tunes and decorate with friends/family! 8. Take a break from it all to focus on you. Get ALL bundled up and take a long winter walk or run. Leave your phone at home and soak up the silence. Enjoy a healthy peppermint smoothie while you’re at it! 7. Open a bottle of wine and throw yourself a gift-wrapping party. 6. Send a card to someone who won’t expect it and will be touched. 5. Make your favorite holiday cookies, from scratch, and share them. Or try a new recipe; TLC Cookies or World Peace Cookies, both of which are made with love. 4. Take a nap (the holidays are exhausting!) english bulldogs dressed up as santa and rudolph 3. Blast your favorite holiday tunes and have a dance party. 2. Family time. Enough said. 1. Have yourself a merry little holiday season. One Healthy Breakdown: we look forward to the holiday season all year. Don’t let the stress distract you from enjoying the most wonderful time of year.

Q & A w Z: Vacation

Q: How do you suggest staying fit on vacation? What’s a good balance between enjoying your time off or with family, but not feeling like you’re falling off your fitness plan all-together?

transportationA: Vacation is vacation. It’s time to relax. It’s the time when you shouldn’t be strictly dieting, counting calories, and going crazy about your macro-nutrients. You can still be active: hike, swim, walk, etc. just don’t be so strict. Try some new foods, exotic fruits, fresh-squeezed juices, locally grown vegetables. Give your body a break. Let yourself stray from your routine. We all need to stop once in a while. Vacation should be a time to recharge your battery. Leave your diet and workout routines at home. It will be there when you come back, I promise you. Have a delicious meal, enjoy a yummy cocktail, try a new dessert. Get back on track when you get home. That is the true balance.

One Healthy Breakdown: Vacation is VACATION!

IntenSati: The Love Your Life Workout

Love your life workout? That doesn’t sound so bad, does it? You want in? Yes, you want in to IntenSati. IntenSati is best described as “a transformational workout that will motivate you to live a life you love in a body you love NOW.” So, what does that mean? It’s aerobics, on crack. No no, not crack. Happy pills. Lots and lots of happy pills. Enticing, right? Totally. Once I took my first IntenSati class, with IntenSati founder herself, Patricia Moreno at Spirit Junkie Sati, I had to go back for more. I was instantly hooked on IntenSati, so, I attended my second class with the fabulous Natalia Petrzela at B-East Fitness Studio in Amagansett.

photo 1To start off the class, we center ourselves by simply inhaling and exhaling, eyes closed, preparing for an intense 55 minutes of empowerment. This is the only moment of stillness and silence the entire class. Suddenly, music is blasting and we’re moving, grooving, and screaming. Yes, screaming. Screaming mantras which rapidly raise much more than the heart rate, but also mood If you’re down in the dumps walking into this class, you’ll instantly be in a better place. If you’re happy as a clam, that happiness will quadruple, it’s impossible not to. (Happy pills, remember.)

IntenSati is a cardio workout utilizing nothing but the body and the voice. It can be done anywhere, anytime. Regardless of the location, the atmosphere fills with light, warmth, energy, and power because of the dynamics of the workout. The room, which is just a normal fitness studio transforms into a place of absolute bliss. Judgement, negativity, and exhaustion just don’t enter the door during IntenSati, there ain’t no space for that crap. It doesn’t matter who has the cutest Lululemons, the longest legs, prettiest ponytail, or the best arms. IntenSati is about embracing you: your life, your body, and your dreams. This class makes you not want to ever be anyone other than yourself.

Imagine punching, jumping, and kicking while yelling the words “I am stronger today. I am better in every way. I am inspired to be the very best that I can be.” Yup, that’s powerful. It’s one thing to yell that and feel like a complete wacko, I know it’s a totally weird concept to be self-exclaiming how awesome you are during a workout class, along with lots of people you’ve never met before. Natalia’s the first to admit that, but just capturing her huge smile and zest for life, you’ll want in. Natalia is a totally down-to-earth fireball, who not only exudes energy, positivity, and light, but she also brings everyone else in class right UP there with her. At the end of the 55 minutes, we’re all better because of Natalia. Hell, even after the first few minutes.

IntenSati is just as much of a workout for your brain (and vocal cords, I lost my voice) as it is for the body. Remembering the combinations and verbiage takes immense focus and concentration. The added benefit of working the muscle of the mind is not only good for a positive outlook, but actually enhances health of the brain, preventing memory loss and age-related decline.

Look for IntenSati around the The Hamptons, NYC, or other states across the nation! Lastly, I should just spell this out: if you’re interested in being stuck in a rut and staying there, this workout is not for you.

One Healthy Breakdown: I’ll be damned if I’m not back in that class as soon as humanly possible…I believe I can!
