Wedding Highlights

I’m so excited to share some highlights from the best day of my life with you! On October 4th, 2014, I married the love of my life, the guy who introduced me to the Hamptons, and my other half…my *husband*! Our wedding day just so happened to be exactly five years (to the day!) that we met. What an amazing five years it has been and I can’t wait for the next five!

1. My MOB (mother of the bride) & FOB (father of the bride.) I couldn’t have imagined or executed a better wedding, beginning to end, and I owe that to my amazing parents MOB & FOB! My mom doubled as my wedding planner/organizer/queen of spreadsheets/idea executor/stress diminisher. She made my dream wedding come true when I couldn’t even really visualize what that was. I owe my wedding planner, aka my amazing mother, lots of thanks for years and years to come. Plus, she looked like a rock star on the big day too!

10712775_904298870773_1508989522148051660_nMy dad kept me cool, calm, and collected during those key moments, as if it was just the two of us in the room. One of the most special moments in a girl’s life is walking down the aisle and dancing with her father at her wedding. I had dreamed about these moments since the first time I saw Father of The Bride and I will remember them forever and always. I can’t stop listening to the song we danced to (Walk With You by Edwin McCain) and it takes me back to that day and a lifetime of memories.

We met randomly at a bar in NYC while I was visiting my friend in grad school and he was out with friends. Positive that it would be my last trip to NYC for a long while, (not such a city girl here) I told my *future husband* that I would never see him again. His response: “never say never.” Lesson learned. Although, at the time, it seemed we were just two people at the wrong place at the wrong time, I’ve never been so wrong. Although I couldn’t have dreamed of a better life as we live today, I would have never imagined it as is. Fate is real, folks, you better believe it.

From the moment my wedding planner (mom) and I began planning the big day over a year ago, we started brainstorming the perfect way to welcome our guests. I wanted it to stand out as original, personal, and from the heart. It took months to put together the perfect collection of goodies that would embrace, please, surprise, and satisfy our wedding guests upon their arrival. We personally packaged gift boxes with a welcome letter (including engagment photos from Kate Petrone Photography and Jenny Moloney Photography) and the following gifts we described as “a few of our favorite things, tastes of our favorite places, and bits and pieces of where we call home:”  Tate’s chocolate chip cookies, (yum!) a PB&J Bar made by Lisa Ann’s Desserts, (an upgraded version of our favorite sandwich – a must try!) Wolffer’s white wine cider, Cape Cod Potato Chips and a lobster lollipop for some Boston flair, Hershey kisses, and a green apple (our favorite healthy snack.)

The two common bits of advice we got heading into our wedding were that it’s over in the blink of an eye, so be sure to soak it all in and the realization of loved ones from all walks of life, near and far, young and old, all in the same room to celebrate your marriage. So, so amazing.

FullSizeRender(2)5. The scheme and theme. To be honest, I always pictured myself getting married during the summer months, outside, near the water. Well, things change and I couldn’t have imagined a better day (the clouds and drizzle didn’t put a damper on anything!) As soon as we decided on our wedding date, autumn in New England opened up such fun possibility. From the amazing poppy colored flowers to the pumpkin place settings, candy apples and gingerbread whoopie pies, the taste of fall, warmth of the season, and essence of love radiated throughout the night.

FullSizeRender_16. The ceremony. Since the very first wedding I remember attending almost 20 years ago, I’ve always gotten nervous right before the ceremony. I’d only imagined that the pit in my stomach would double when it was my time to walk down the aisle. But, guess what…I really wasn’t nervous for my own wedding. I was content, ready, and full of excitement. I couldn’t wait to walk arm-in-arm down the aisle with my father. I couldn’t wait to stand there with my *husband to-be* and say our I do’s. As soon as our priest (who is also a family friend) began to speak, I fully relaxed and a smile appeared on my face that lasted the entire ceremony…actually, the entire weekend. The fact that the ceremony included personal stories, humor, and lots of smiles made it that much more special.

Heating Up in Style at Gloria Jewel

This was a looooooong winter. No one is happier to see signs of spring than me. Until now, the only time I defrosted and felt warm and sunny was during a recent shopping trip to Gloria Jewel in Bridgehampton. Despite the fact that the weather outside was all kinds of chilly, I’m convinced that it’s always sunny inside Gloria Jewel.

I was on a mission – in need of a few spring staples with serious staying power to transform my wardrobe. Maybe even something I could wear right through summer…even fall… Luckily, that’s what Gloria Jewel is all about: functional, fashionable staples. Trendy, yet comfortable and classic essentials that can transform an ordinary day into a confident, kick-ass day. Sounds good, right? So, I blocked out a couple of hours and (lucky me!) headed out for a shopping spree.

photo 2I arrived at Gloria Jewel on a quiet morning to get some one-on-one time with the fabulous Megan Chiarello, owner and founder of Gloria Jewel. First, I got the grand tour of the Bridgehampton store, (located at 125 Main Street) current inventory, brands, designers, materials, and trends. My first thought: The. Colors. Are. Perfection.

Megan started Gloria Jewel in 2007, modeling the concept after her two grandmothers, both of whom impacted her deep love and appreciation for fashion. Unlike most high-end fashion boutiques in New York and elsewhere, Gloria Jewel is built on unconditional love, acceptance, and the desire to empower women through fashion. It’s crystal clear that Megan’s welcoming personality set a precedent throughout the company from day one.

Megan’s passion got me super stoked to shop and her attitude about clothing is right up my alley. “I’m into wearing your clothes,” Megan explains. She aims to make that moment when a women opens her closet every morning positive, fun, and comforting. Gloria Jewel is not about one-time wonders. And that’s good, because neither are cost-efficient shoppers. What’s the point of investing in an item of clothing only to wear it once, get sick of it fast, see it everywhere, or notice a decline in quality after one wash? Gloria Jewel takes care of it all. And not just boutique fashion, but also community events, charities, and year-round goings on. I’m on board with that (in my new peach long-sleeve by Wilt.)

photo 3From mood to merchandise, Gloria Jewel makes shopping FUN. No pressure to buy, no fake feedback we all know and hate. Although I loved most of what I saw and tried on, there were definitely items that just weren’t for me, and Megan was totally honest, which was so incredibly refreshing. Gloria Jewel’s staff understands that shoppers are all different. Some crave personal attention, others do NOT, but every woman deserves to walk out with at least one item of clothing that she will ROCK.

photo 4And you better believe that that’s what I did. Again and again…and again.

picstitch(19)Cotton fringe? Yes, please. Navy T-shirt dress? Must have. Yup, you’ll see me sporting these two bad boys a lot this spring. Oh, the power of staples.

So, what else sets Gloria Jewel apart from other Hamptons/NYC boutiques? The company is built on the goal of helping each and every woman (regardless of age, size, background) to feel great in her clothing. As miss One Healthy Hamptons, I can attest to the fact that all of this healthy eating and working out just isn’t worth the while unless we feel good about ourselves in our own skin. Fashion is an expression of who we are; clothing can either lift us up, making us feel comfortable and confident, or weigh us down.

While Gloria Jewel excels in high-fashion, chic, trend-setting looks, comfort is the underlying objective. If you’re comfortable, you’re confident. Megan aims to provide women with comfortable fashion that will show confidence morning through night. “I want our customers to feel good, whether they’re meeting colleagues for coffee, picking up the kids at school, or heading out for date night.” Ah, life in the Hamptons. Everywhere we look, folks are dressed to the nines…why not us, right?!

GloriaJewel-Logo-Slide2-16971_960x480Gloria Jewel shoppers are shoppers for life (trust me, I’m one of them.) The successful boutique has expanded to Westhampton Beach, Bridgehampton, Amagansett, and TriBeCa. “We want you to get compliments. We want you to get the most flattering look for YOU, we want you to find that great-fitting pair of jeans, it’s hands-down the best investment a woman can make,” Megan explains and I concur. The power of a good pair of jeans, a perfect white T, or a bombshell top for your next night out is irreplaceable. So, get ready to shop with ease, comfort, and uncompromised style.
