July Stars & Stripes Challenge!

Happy July! Here’s the deal, people: It’s independence month and we’re celebrating with stars and stripes…which means, we’re working our abs…A LOT. Summer’s in full force and we’re keeping that beach body toned (you’re welcome!) To begin, lie flat on your back and lift your legs to a 45 degree angle, keeping them as straight as possible. To perform a “star,” draw an imaginary star in the air with your toes with your back on the floor and legs together. For a stripe, move toes horizontally from one side to the other, and back (counts as two.) You’ll be doing stars some days, stripes other days, and both for double trouble. Just save, print, or pin the image below and let the celebrations begin!

Hope in the Hamptons

Come out and celebrate the life-saving mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® at the Inaugural St. Jude Hope in the Hamptons on July 11th! Hosted by FOX News National Security Expert, Columnist, and Commentator, KT McFarland, this chic red carpet event will feature gourmet, farm-fresh fare, cocktails, an exclusive auction, and a performance by Billy Joel’s Broadway tribute band, The Movin’ Out Band. It’s an event not to be missed with an unprecedented cause.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is leading the way the world understands, treats, and defeats childhood cancer and other deadly diseases. Everything they do is centered around finding cures and saving children. The most amazing part about St. Jude is that families never receive a bill. They pay for treatment, travel, housing, and food – because St. Jude understands that the only thing that these families should worry about is helping their children live. Now that’s something to celebrate.

Hamptons ImageSt. Jude has the world’s best survival rates for the most aggressive childhood cancers. Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to 80 percent and working to drive this number to 90 percent in the next decade. Meanwhile, St. Jude freely shares the breakthroughs it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.

In addition to celebrating this great cause and this amazing community, we’ll honor local Hamptons family of little Drew, currently receiving treatment at St. Jude for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Let’s rally for Drew, support St. Jude, and celebrate summer in the Hamptons! Click here or call (212) 239-3239 to purchase tickets for Hope in the Hamptons. One Healthy Hamptons is honored to support this cause and we’re looking forward to seeing you Saturday, July 11, 2015, 6-10:30pm at 1143 Deerfield Road, Water Mill.

Giving Thanks OHH Style

Here are a few tips for the happiest, healthiest turkey day yet!

Portrait of a family saying grace before eating dinner1. Focus on Thanks-giving. Giving Thanks. That’s what it’s all about. Most families tend to rush through a humungo, chaotic, larger than life meal that took days to prepare, and are lucky if everything’s still civil and sober by dessert. Embrace your company and focus on family. Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the holiday season, which can definitely be a stressful time. Before the fun begins, take at least 5-10 minutes to actually ponder what you’re thankful for. What has changed for the better since last Thanksgiving? Who are you grateful to spend time with this holiday? Make it a point to think about how to truly live in the moment and enjoy the day and the season, not just the short-lived feast.

2. Eat all day. Ok, not allllll day, but don’t (do NOT) fast for the feast! If you skip breakfast and lunch to save room or calories, you’ll be starving, your blood sugar will be off, and you’ll make up for it big time later. Eat a balanced breakfast and even a small lunch or snack so that you’re more likely to eat dinner as dinner, not as the all-you-can-fit buffet. Smoothies are a great option for a light meal, packed with nutrients that won’t fill you up or weigh you down!

3. Chew more, eat less. Chewing is underrated and overlooked. The simple act of tasting and chewing our food (really chewing, like a lot) aids digestion and satisfaction in monumental ways. If you’re mindful of chewing each and every bite, you may not have to loosen that belt after all!

4. Eat the gosh darn turkey! We all know that the turkey is not the problem. Turkey is a delicious source of lean protein that is low in fat, low on the glycemic index, and full of healthy goodness. It’s those caramelized side dishes, dinner rolls, and pieces of pie that do us in. Let’s all stop blaming the bird and aim for a well-balanced plate of protein, carbs, and lots of veggies.

5. Have your pie and eat it too. Splurging is o.k., normal, and enjoyable. Just keep in mind that this is not the last supper and that servings, bites, tastes, and even slivers add up. Thanksgiving doesn’t have to be a diet disaster. Instead of loading your plate once, twice, three times before dessert is served, take your time in choosing your favorites and indulge mindfully.

One Healthy Breakdown: focus on what the day is all about! (hint: it’s not mashed potatoes!)

Wedding Highlights

I’m so excited to share some highlights from the best day of my life with you! On October 4th, 2014, I married the love of my life, the guy who introduced me to the Hamptons, and my other half…my *husband*! Our wedding day just so happened to be exactly five years (to the day!) that we met. What an amazing five years it has been and I can’t wait for the next five!

View More: http://jennymoloney.pass.us/sabatinoWedding highlights:
1. My MOB (mother of the bride) & FOB (father of the bride.) I couldn’t have imagined or executed a better wedding, beginning to end, and I owe that to my amazing parents MOB & FOB! My mom doubled as my wedding planner/organizer/queen of spreadsheets/idea executor/stress diminisher. She made my dream wedding come true when I couldn’t even really visualize what that was. I owe my wedding planner, aka my amazing mother, lots of thanks for years and years to come. Plus, she looked like a rock star on the big day too!

10712775_904298870773_1508989522148051660_nMy dad kept me cool, calm, and collected during those key moments, as if it was just the two of us in the room. One of the most special moments in a girl’s life is walking down the aisle and dancing with her father at her wedding. I had dreamed about these moments since the first time I saw Father of The Bride and I will remember them forever and always. I can’t stop listening to the song we danced to (Walk With You by Edwin McCain) and it takes me back to that day and a lifetime of memories.

10408817_594935880618586_1879594273773841636_n2. The guy. I have no idea how I got so lucky as to meet my *husband* but I do know that fate played a serious role. We met randomly at a bar in NYC while I was visiting my friend in grad school and he was out with friends. Positive that it would be my last trip to NYC for a long while, (not such a city girl here) I told my *future husband* that I would never see him again. His response: “never say never.” Lesson learned. Although, at the time, it seemed we were just two people at the wrong place at the wrong time, I’ve never been so wrong. Although I couldn’t have dreamed of a better life as we live today, I would have never imagined it as is. Fate is real, folks, you better believe it.

View More: http://jennymoloney.pass.us/sabatino3. The welcome. From the moment my wedding planner (mom) and I began planning the big day over a year ago, we started brainstorming the perfect way to welcome our guests. I wanted it to stand out as original, personal, and from the heart. It took months to put together the perfect collection of goodies that would embrace, please, surprise, and satisfy our wedding guests upon their arrival. We personally packaged gift boxes with a welcome letter (including engagment photos from Kate Petrone Photography and Jenny Moloney Photography) and the following gifts we described as “a few of our favorite things, tastes of our favorite places, and bits and pieces of where we call home:”  Tate’s chocolate chip cookies, (yum!) a PB&J Bar made by Lisa Ann’s Desserts, (an upgraded version of our favorite sandwich – a must try!) Wolffer’s white wine cider, Cape Cod Potato Chips and a lobster lollipop for some Boston flair, Hershey kisses, and a green apple (our favorite healthy snack.)

FullSizeRender(1)4. The company. The two common bits of advice we got heading into our wedding were that it’s over in the blink of an eye, so be sure to soak it all in and the realization of loved ones from all walks of life, near and far, young and old, all in the same room to celebrate your marriage. So, so amazing.

FullSizeRender(2)5. The scheme and theme. To be honest, I always pictured myself getting married during the summer months, outside, near the water. Well, things change and I couldn’t have imagined a better day (the clouds and drizzle didn’t put a damper on anything!) As soon as we decided on our wedding date, autumn in New England opened up such fun possibility. From the amazing poppy colored flowers to the pumpkin place settings, candy apples and gingerbread whoopie pies, the taste of fall, warmth of the season, and essence of love radiated throughout the night.

FullSizeRender_16. The ceremony. Since the very first wedding I remember attending almost 20 years ago, I’ve always gotten nervous right before the ceremony. I’d only imagined that the pit in my stomach would double when it was my time to walk down the aisle. But, guess what…I really wasn’t nervous for my own wedding. I was content, ready, and full of excitement. I couldn’t wait to walk arm-in-arm down the aisle with my father. I couldn’t wait to stand there with my *husband to-be* and say our I do’s. As soon as our priest (who is also a family friend) began to speak, I fully relaxed and a smile appeared on my face that lasted the entire ceremony…actually, the entire weekend. The fact that the ceremony included personal stories, humor, and lots of smiles made it that much more special.

1959281_904290547453_7805848216804552830_n7. The dress. I fell in love with that dress the moment I saw it and I knew it was the one. I said yes to the dress and never looked back. Now, if only I could wear it more often…!

389571251406931143_n8. The memories that will last a lifetime.

Run 10 FEED 10 Recap

The FEED Foundation, started by Lauren Bush Lauren, aids world hunger and malnutrition in a creative, powerful, and trend-setting way. Over seventy five million meals have been provided through sales of FEED’s signature artisan products (bags, t-shirts, jewelery, etc.) Buyers can feel good about purchasing great products that support an even better cause, providing adequate nutrition for those in need. Good products that FEED the world, check them out here!

photo 3I learned about FEED Projects through Women’sHealth Magazine’s Run 10 Feed 10 Campaign, a series of 10k races to fund domestic hunger. Each registration fee FEEDS 10 meals to those in need right in your own ‘backyard.’ Food is available; however, it is unfortunately not accessible to everyone. FEED Projects, in collaboration with Women’sHealth Magazine, is out to make change, one meal at a time, one bag at a time, one runner at a time.

I’m eager to spread the word about Run 10 Feed 10 because this fabulous campaign combines all good things One Healthy Hamptons loves to support: women’s health, fitness, aiding hunger, running, celebrating, and more! Every summer, Women’sHealth Magazine heads out east for a weekend celebration packed with fitness and fun in preparation for NYC’s Run 10 Feed 10 race on Sunday, September 21st. Register today!

We kicked off “Women’sHealth covers the Hamptons” weekend with a great Flywheel class on Saturday morning before the celebrations commenced. And celebrate we did, at the Run 10 Feed 10 “Party Under the Stars.” There’s nothing better than celebrating a great cause with like-minded, inspirational people…Hamptons style of course!

Better Boozin’

MC900449032In honor of all things worth celebrating, I give you top tips for better boozin’:

  • Go with wine, wine spritzers, light beer, or simple cocktails to avoid drinking your calories (usually, the lighter the color, the lighter the drink)
  • Always drink water while ya booze
  • Use zero-cal club soda, seltzer, or sparkling water instead of tonic
  • Use REAL juice – like fresh-squeezed or 100% juice if store-bought
  • Use REAL fruit – mix/garnish with lemon, grapefruit, berries, and other fruits for natural fruitiness, especially fun to get creative with fruit during summer months!
  • Sweeten with stevia, honey, or real maple syrup for natural sweetness
  • Don’t be afraid to get creative with your mixers…hello, kombucha!
  • Watch those portions and keep track of how many you’ve had
  • Use fun glasses. Even a boring drink or a mocktail in a fun glass tastes better
  • Lasty, and possibly most important: keep full water bottles beside your bed and make sure to drink at least one before hitting the hay – you’ll cut your hangover and headache in half instantly because you won’t be as dehydrated!

Celebrate Earth Day Every Day!

Hands touching a globeHappy Earth Day! Here’s how we can celebrate Earth Day today and every day by getting a little greener:

  • Carry a BPA-free water bottle everywhere you go. This is my top tip, I always have my water bottle with me. Helps the earth and helps yourself by staying hydrated!
  • Bring reusable bags to the grocery store, keep a few in your car.
  • Buy non-GMO produce and look local. Supporting local farmers, growers, and businesses as opposed to national conglomerates, not only assures freshness, but also makes the world, and the Hamptons, go round.
  • Give old ‘stuff’ to others. Instead of trashing old clothes or belongings, donate them if they’re usable. Donating supplies others with things they may not have and prevents waste.
  • Don’t litter…it’s that simple.
  • Use the most natural products around the house that you can, like cleaning products, paper products, food, etc.
  • Walk or bike more places – the weather is finally pleasant, enjoy it and save gas!
  • Borrow/rent items (like books, movies, etc.) instead of buying to save waste and money.

One Healthy Breakdown: Reduce, reuse, recycle (of course!)
